If you’re finding it difficult to juggle the pressing demands of your job and the rest of your life then you’re not alone. When you plan your week, make sure that you schedule in time with your loved ones. Whether this is a football game with friends, a date with your partner or a family outing with the kids, if this is noted on your calendar you have something to look forward to.
Why not set aside one day a week that is to be dedicated entirely to you and your family? Switch off your smartphone, stay away from the computer and simply enjoy your loved ones. You will be thankful that you did in years to come and in the short term this creates a sense of wellbeing, which will make your working week more productive.
People often get sucked into habits that are a waste of time and energy. Whether this is being roped into giving a colleague a lift home or becoming the office dogsbody. Re-evaluate the situation, if you find areas where you feel advantage is being taken of you and there’s no productive value then put a stop to it. Be harsh, strong and even rude if you have to, remember your objectives and overall purpose as a focus.
Consider where you can save time on those niggling household chores, for example could you afford to hire in a cleaner, someone to do your ironing, could you have your groceries delivered? Rather than cooking meals every night, why not cook a batch of meals when you have time and freeze them to use for the days where you don’t.
Exercise is a productive use of time; it is scientifically proven to boost your brain activity and energy levels therefore vital for your working life. Even just three half an hour sessions a week can have a huge effect on your overall wellbeing.
Take just 10 minutes a day for yourself, whether this is to go for a walk, listen to music or read a magazine. Being good to yourself ignites your inner joy and can bring more balance to your working and home life.
Remember, getting the balance right is not the easiest thing to do, and you will have days, or week where you feel you haven’t got the balance right. Simply look over a checklist, such as this article once a month to keep track of these tips and you’ll be able to redress the balance!
